Well in today’s economy, that’s not unusual, as a matter of fact it seems to be more of the norm. I was no exception, at the age of 56 I lost my mortgage business because of the housing meltdown.

 

Soon after, like dominos, I lost everything else. I was evicted from my apartment, I had my car repossessed and because I maxed out my credit cards trying to keep the business afloat and went through what savings I had, I had no choice but to crawl back to my x-wife for a place to live…and how humiliating do you think that was?! Don’t worry…it gets better (there’s an upside to all this).

Isn’t it funny how life can take you down totally unexpected paths? 

That’s exactly what happened to me when I started a company that became THE largest publisher of animation artwork for television commercials. We created the first ever animation art lines for Coca-Cola, Anheuser-Bush, M&M/Mars, Pillsbury, etc. This was my first experience in learning how to run a successful business. 

Despite the early success of my first business, I made a complete career change and sold my company off to start a whole new company. The company I own now makes—wait—a whole line of celebrity rubber ducks! This second business has taught me even more about how to run a successful business.
